24 Hours in Florence

June 25, 2017

I've heard so many amazing things about Florence so when we bought our plane tickets to Milan, I knew I had to somehow squeeze Florence into our itinerary. I can't tell you how many people have told me that Florence is their favorite city in Italy (and in the world, for some), so I was going in with some pretty high expectations. Florence, like many other Italian cities, is like one big walking museum. Everywhere you turn, there's a piece of history staring at you in the face. It's the birthplace of the Renaissance, the capital of Tuscany, and so many history-changing, talented artists and designers have called this city home.

While we did spent the most time in Venice during our Spring Break trip (will blog about that soon), we did make the most of our 24 hours in beautiful Florence.

9:30 AM | Arrived in Florence and got to check into our hotel early. We stayed at Hotel Bigallo, and our room had the most amazing view (pictured above)!

10:00 AM | Took a taxi to the Piazzale Michelangelo

11:00 AM | Made our way down to the Ponte Vecchio

11:30 AM | Grabbed lunch at a corner osteria

12:00 PM | Walked around the Palazzo Vecchio so Aiden could see Dante's Mask (we recently watched Dan Brown's Inferno)

2:00 PM | Dropped off Lyndon at the hotel (his knee was really bothering him at this point). Aiden and I spent the afternoon walking around Florence

7:00 PM | Dinner at L'Osteria di Giovanni

8:00 AM | Headed to the Galleria dell'Accademia to see David

I wish we had more time in Florence, but we had to make our 12:00 PM train back to Milan. We had tickets to see Leonardo da Vinci's The Last Supper, and we definitely did not want to miss that opportunity. I would love to go back to Florence one day. Lyndon did not get see a lot of it because of his hurt knee so that gives us a reason to go back. After just spending 24 hours in Florence, I can now see why so many people love this city.

What is something I must see the next time I'm in Florence?
